Cultivating Boundlessness with Thich Phap Vu
Weekend: Oct 5th-7th
We often go through our lives day by day, without ever stopping to consider that there is more – that an untapped potential lies in all of us. This potential is our boundless capacity for wisdom and compassion. In this retreat we will explore the nature of our boundless potential and how we can nurture it, guided by Thich Phap Vu – a American monk who has been a monastic disciple of Thich Nhat Hanh for more than 15 years.
Meeting Your True Self with Ven. Chang-Zhai
Weekend: Oct 12th-14th
Who am I? It’s a question that we ask ourselves a lot as we grow up – but it seems the older we get, the more confused we become, despite the urgency of our search. But is there even such a thing as an “I” to begin with? The Buddhist teachings tell us that we are not who we think we are. So who are we really? Ven. Chang-Zhai, a nun in the Chan (Chinese Zen) lineage of Master Sheng-Yen, will lead us on a weekend exploring the nature of not-self: the deepest and most profoundly transformative aspect of the Buddha’s teachings.
Perfecting the Mind with Ven. Wuling
Weekend: Oct 19th-21st
As with other forms of Mahāyāna, Pure Land Buddhism upholds the development of the Six Pāramitās – generosity, morality, patience, diligence, concentration, and insight. During this weekend retreat, Venerable Wuling will explain how cultivating these six qualities help bring us towards the mental perfection necessary for achieving the pinnacle of our practice.
Complete Enlightenment with David Listen
Weekend: Oct 26th-28th
On this intensive retreat, free from the distractions of daily life, you’ll have the opportunity to develop mental calm and clarity. With the support of strict regulations and sustained mindful practice, you first discover how your own views, habits, and preferences can be sources of suffering. Then if you apply the methods and concepts of the practice, you’ll have the chance to experience freedom from these limiting views and behaviors. Let go of your burdens and relax into the present moment of your natural, wakeful state.
The Foundations of Mindfulness with Bhante Jayasara
Weekend: Nov 2nd-4th
By bringing attention and awareness to our experiences through the body and mind, we develop insight into the true nature of things, we gradually clear away the mental gunk that clouds our vision, and we begin to see things as they are – which leads to peace and freedom. Join Bhante Jayasāra for a weekend of mindfulness and meditation to learn about these ancient teachings and put them into practice in the context of a modern life.
Wisdom and Compassion with Lama Depa & Lama Lhadrun
Weekend: Nov 9th-11th
In these challenging times, a calm mind and open heart are essential to our own wellbeing and that of others. Tibetan Buddhism offers a wide range of meditation practices which enable us to develop our innate potential for compassion and wisdom. These practices include sitting and walking meditation as well as visualization and chanting practices. During this retreat we will receive teachings on these practices inherited from great masters of the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, and practice them under the guidance of Ven. Ani Depa and Ven. Ani Lhadrun.
Saturday Nov 17th
Living by Vow with Rev. Phoebe
5-DAY: Nov 21st-25th
Why do we practice, and how can we use our initial intention – our vow – to make every activity in our day spiritually meaningful? This is the question that will begin our immersion in Zen practice. We will learn to pay attention to all aspects of our experience in our daily activities, and see how Zen offers us the opportunity to harmonize body and mind. Rev. Phoebe, a Buddhist nun for nearly 40 years, will offer in-depth instruction in meditation, chanting, and ceremony. She will also provide private spiritual guidance and – weather permitting – meditation on the beach.
Who is the Buddha? With Ven. Konin Dhammapipa
Weekend: Dec 7th-9th
In this workshop we will explore our relationship to Shakyamuni Buddha through the lenses of his life story and teachings, the stories of the women arahants, and the koan tradition of Zen. This workshop is suitable for any practitioner, whether beginner or experienced.
